Trifling the Job is Not Important, Now!
Assalamualaikum wr wb.
Hello everybody, it’s gonna be so long if I do not try to write in this blog. We have been never seeing each other since three months ago. I have beeen working, actually not exactly earning money, in one of government office of Ministry of Finance in my beloved home town, Tegal. I am used to riding my motorcycle every morning from Monday to Friday. I need twenty up to thirty minutes to get my work place.
Talking about how I interact with other workers there, how I try every department there, and how I service society, I’ll tell you now.
For the first one month, I was in Service Department with one of my friends. The word ‘department’ is not suitable for the word ‘seksi’. I couldn’t find another appropriate word. How poor I am. However, I choose department in order it looks like so amzing job. Wow. The time flew quickly with boring situation. We only did boring and endless job. Looking the paper, then paper, and phone. It was ok, we were beginner. I just thought that this was only initial step for other job steps which would be more difficult, more challenging, and more useful for me.
I started work in Extensification and Elucidation Departement on April. The conclusion is I have been working almost for two months. My boss get me to educate new tax payers who are new citizen who never get knowledge about tax and its function. Educate them is easy for me because I just deliver the material to them one by one. The difficulty comes when we cannot fully enocurage them to be good tax payers. They comes to our offices because they need ‘Identification Number for Tax Payers’. Let’s we imagine, they come because banks have the tax payer card made however the way. Central Bank of Indonesia made a regulation for every bank customers who will make loan with bank minimal fifty million rupiahs, they have the tax payer number. Getting the number, they have to register in my office.
They get the card and then go, forget their duty to pay tax. The weakness of this self assesment system is the officer can not force the tax payer to pay with legal letter. The taxpayers are given the opportunity to calculate, recalculate, pay, and report their tax to the governemtn by themselves. Only certain officers who have special authority to investigate and produce legal decisions how much the payer have to pay. I am in this department only deliver the duty and right of taxpayers, and teach them how to calculate their tax. Forcing is only the word in Law, but in the reality not all the citizen know the regulation. It is not easy for us to make all citizen realize that tax is useful for the development of Indonesia, include building of schools, hospitals, public offices, government offices, roads, and so on.
New taxpayers will compare the facility they pay to insurance agent with pay tax. They can use the health facilities from the money they pay, but they can not see and use the usefullnes of paying tax for country. Example, they are getting sick, then they just shoe their insurance card, the cost will be paid by the insurance agent. How about paying the tax? They can not feel direct aim from tax. The definition of tax is really true in Law, it is the usefullness is indirect. If we say that the road you walk everyday is from your money, then they will say, “ah, the way is not comfortable to ride. The tax is not used properly, only stoleh by the corruptors”. I still think how I answer the statements above up to now. I will say, “ I am from new generation who wil bring my country better than nowadays. The consideration is on your side, Mister, If you can not trust me and my generation, we can not change our country. Let’s we build, develop, improve aour country condition together with our hands. You are with your bussiness, and we are with my job collecting taxes. If you can not trust me, then who you will trust.”
It is one of my experience in my office as an internship workers. One thing that I will remember, we are beginner, we never reach the highest peak of mountain if we never touch the foot of mountain. The easy example is I ‘only’ write the document for archives of tax payers. I write the name, number, kind of bussiness, and address then I deliver it to archive room. We can not say that it is not challenging. Just imagine, if we cannot do it, how we can do other works. Now you only say ‘ah’. Please come on guy, you just touch down here since one week ago. The seniors also had done this job fifteen years ago. Remember we are still newbie. Addition, we are still in diploma. Your act looks like you are a boss. Remeber again, we just touch down on the foot of mountain.
Bismillah. I will do whatever I can do for my country, my belief, and my people. Eventhough I have to walk for million miles, climb the walls, and beyond the fire, but still I have work smartly and efficiently. I do this only proving to Allah that I am a human who will always thank to Allah, this is my way to pray to Allah, include writing archives.
